Still on the hunt for a 90, found another one on a slightly obscure farmers ads site (not Farming Ads) that someone suggested, advertised at £3.5k + VAT

Described as:

92 k
Just serviced - all oils changed, new heater plugs, air filter etc..
300 TDi engine
New front bumper, rear cross member and fuel tank fitted in last two years
Comes with bull bars, not currently fitted.
Green paintwork
Truck cab
Ifor Williams back
In good condition for a vehicle of its age
New front seat covers
Tow bar
5 good off road tyres
Only one months MOT left as it stands, but if it helps with the sale we will put it through, it has never had any major problems at MOT time

It's not far from me vs. the usual 150 mile round trip and is a private sale.

I'm tempted to go take a look as a truck cab is appealing to me more than a hard top right now and at that sort of money I'm not sure it's going to lose much? Then again you always think "No rush, something mint will be just around the corner" but I'm not sure it will without spending substantially more - and as someone said to me if you buy a minter will you be afraid to actually use it as a Defender?

I know the stock responses are that it's overpriced by about £2k because everyone on here seems to pick them up for that :D but any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks!

private sale + vat? bit odd, no?
looks like a tidy truck, i personally think its a bit steep on the price, but then its got the right engine, been serviced, lots of new bits. worth a look if its local.

if he will put it through an mot definately do it!! i would be scared paying that much for any car with just 1 month mot on it.
with a fresh mot and tax i'd say its worth it.

Bit chavvy IMO - I want something unmolested without chequer plate and lifts and stuff (no offence to anyone just each to their own).

I think I'll go take a look and if it seems sound suggest he gets it MOT'd and if it passed I'm not sure I can haggle/quibble too much - I'd prefer something I can just get in and drive vs. save a few quid but have to fix from day one...

A farmer...VAT ??...Keeping the books straight...I think a little bit of urine just trickled out as i laughed!

You go down there with 3 grand in notes...see if he still wants to talk about VAT.

i would avoid that one it has some sort of temporal distortion on the front bumper where the numberplate should be, you don't want to get sucked into another dimension!

Well spotted...a blatant attempt to avoid speeding fines...although not strictly necessary.

Me too, he can have the VAT if he gives me his VAT registration number!! 4k for a truckcab thats had to have a new crossmember, what else might be rotten?. I think not!!

Went to have a look today. Don't claim to be a mechanical expert but it started/drove soundly enough, chassis looked alright but again I don't claim to be applying any more than common sense - ultimately it was a bit more of a nail with the bodywork and interior than I'm looking for so the hunt continues...
