Came home at 1800 yesterday

Went to workshop to turn heater on to make the place toasty for replacing the UV joints in the Landrover prop shafts.

Noticed window open. Thought, 'That's odd'.

Turned round and discovered a complete rack of Makita power tools has been nicked.

They'd jemmied the window open and broken the frame. (but didn't break the glass...)

So if you get offered a Makita Multitool, a Makita cordless drill, a Makita jigsaw, Makita SDS corded 230V drill, Trend T11 router Halfords Professional Socket Set etc etc then come and have a word with me so I can send the boys round to collect my stuff.

At least it's all insured.

However some of it is sentimental as my better half bought them for me as birthday/Christmas presents. They don't do the Halfords Socket set any more. (It used to live on the boat and I'd only brought it home to rebuild the Landrover Transfer Gearbox.). The SDS drill is superseded and that was a birthday present...

Gutted for you mate:(

Have you got any pics or identifying marks on stuff nicked.

I’m sorry mate. That sort of thing makes my blood boil. Keep an eye out on gum tree as ****s like to sell on this as no identity checks. Friend of mine had her bike stolen, saw it on gum tree, pretended to be a buyer and turned with with half of UCLs rugby team. They made the bastard kneel down and apologise.

What a bunch off ballbags..

Gutted for you mate..

Can't stand thieving bastards..

Some of the tools are in the background of the pics I took of my rebuild of the transfer gearbox. I intentionally didn’t photograph the rack of tools as I didn’t want to advertise them being there!

Unfortunately I think they could just see them through the window.

We’re getting cctv and I’m putting a blind (and bars) on the window

One of the reason why when I rebuilt my garage, I didn’t fit any windows, nor is there any glass in the door.

Needs more lighting but I feel it’s safer, from anybody inclined to want my stuff.

Sorry to hear that pal! I know it's not much use now, but i work in the security systems industry so if you need any alarms/cameras/locks/etc at trade price let me know!

Can't stand theiving bastards! Especially when it's tools!

I'm finding the whole 'shed or garage alarm' business very complex.

I think that what I'd like is an alarm with a PIR plus detectors on the door and windows. I would like a remote fob or similar that I can put on the workshop key ring and when I'm walking over to unlock it, I can just press the button in the same way that you unlock a vehicle (even my Defender) when you approach it. I think it needs a VERY loud alarm inside and outside to really make anyone think twice about how much attention they are drawing to themselves and to be painfully loud inside so that it makes you want to leave pronto. I've got power to the workshop so it doesn't have to be a battery only system. I'm reasonably competent (I've rebuilt engines and gearboxes and a house and I was an electronics engineer many years ago in a previous career) so I am reasonably happy to fit something myself.

The question is what? Google brings up so many possibilities that you are left bewildered.

Sorry to hear about this (thanks for the heads up @Turktowner ) I'll keep my eyes open as also very local
Send me a PM if/when replacing tools as I may possibly be able to help.....but not Makita!!

if you want loud, you'll want a master blaster! think of a mini air raid siren. 120db of pure hell. i've fitted hundreds of them and a few dozen of my customers that have them have had attempted break-ins... shock sensors on windows mean that the siren is ringing before they're even in, and they don't stick around!
They're not cheap though, about £120 for just the siren, so it depends how much you want to spend... a standard £50 siren will also work, but nowhere near as loud.

i've got a load of tested second hand alarm sensors, control panels, etc so I can sort you out either way, let me know :)

Just made up a silent alarm for mine. It simply phones me. It has two door sensors a vibration sensor and a tamper switch. Not that the box will be accessible in enough time before I am on my way round with a baseball bat.
I was raided in October and they cleared me out. Unfortunately I cant get any insurance as the lock up is out of the way and has no mains electricity.
Its a big kick in the taters when tour having to start from scratch again. I hope they die in pain.

The generator they nicked came up on ebay about six weeks ago and I'm still waiting for the filth to reunite me with it. They are useless.

Did they assign an officer ter investigate?

Yes. A PC came round and took a statement but said as there were no leads it probably would be filed. Scene of crime quizzed me over the phone but without the burglars leaving anything they wouldn’t send forensics.
