I'm considering buying a vehicle with an LPG system already installed.

Apparently it runs/switches as it should. He says its electronic if that makes a difference?

But I have never owned/used/maintained an LPG vehicle... Is servicing and repairs a DIY job, or an expensive garage job?

How have you guys found LPG as far as running costs go?

I have several fuel stations nearby that sell it, so availability isn't an issue.

Any tips and hints would be greatly appreciated!

if you buy one make sure its a multi point and not a single point injection as they have problems with the single point inj

Hi Ed, only just come across this post. I run a 1996 Land Rover Discovery on LPG, I have a multipoint system so I start on petrol, drive on petrol for a little while as the engine warms and then I have a switch to the right of the steering wheel that I switch down to G (for gas) and it runs fine.

Cost wise I'm told is similar to running an older diesel Land Rover, whether this is true or not I don't know, I'm not a huge earner as I mainly do seasonal farm work and I'm not having any problems running it.

LPG systems are better left to the professionals as this way you come away with a service history that's been done by those who are certified. This being the case there are a few less complicated and potentially dangerous aspects which you can do yourself. So far the LPG has run a dream, however my engine is currently leaking oil so it's not all hunky doory, that shall however be left to my own thread that I shall write after finishing this reply!

All in all I'd say go for it, I have to drive about 10 miles to get my LPG but hearing that baby purr when I start up and continue to do so as I drive about town, down country lanes and up main arterial roads makes it all worthwhile to me.

I've got a 1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE running on Petrol and LPG, and I carn't fault it on LPG it just went through the MOT on LPG and came back with a fantastic reading, and its cheap to run as well and also the insurance is cheaper because of the LPG system fitted. Good Luck
