...I think. Have the top-end ES version on an '04 plate. As I had the seats out to remove the front carpet, thought I'd Google the Harmon Kardon amplifier which led me on to surround sound and 5.1......which got me wondering. So bought the SACD Dark Side of the Moon and put it in the head unit.

Woo hoo!!! Damn right....surround sound...yee hah! Max the volume and feel that car rock :)

LOL !!

Which head unit? The Becker SatNav?

Not sure....it is whatever was fitted as part of the ES package. I can check if you tell me what to look for.

Thomas, yes it is.

I now have a horrible feeling that you are going tell me that I am talking tosh! Having said that I stuck the SACD disc in and as far as I can see the sound spatials are as in my 5.1 system indoors. Maybe Becker were trialling an SACD version as the Disco 2 reached end-of-life?

I honestly don't known it's tosh or not :). I asked because that's the setup I have, and I'll be very happy if it is genuinely surround.

5.1 on a CD? even an SACD. So your disco's sound system is wired with six separate channels is it? if so how and where is the centre loudspeaker fitted.

I think you will find you are picking up the CD compatible layer (check the packaging) as to 5.1 woofer is NOT a centre channel, I think it is most likely just normal fader.

Left to both doors, right to both doors, bass to rear door.

Unfortunately both SACD and DVD-A failed due to peoples preference for ****ty mp3s

:mil13: mp3

I am into home cinema so know a bit, and have a DVD player with SACD and DVD-A playback

Well, there's front and rear fader too.

But I think you are probably right, it seems unlikely that even a Harmon/Kardon amp would be wired for Surround in a vehicle :)

Oh pants! Been waiting for a test SACD disc to arrive. 5.1 works perfectly on the house 5.1 system. But as some of you correctly surmised, I ain't got surround sound in my Disco II. Later model(s) do.

Never mind...still a good sound system :)

At home I have a Pioneer DV575 for music and DVD duties, a PS3 for Blu Ray and some game duties and a PS4 for the rest
