Hi Guys
I am new to this and i have a problem with a freelander 1. I parked up the other day no problems went to start today and won't turn over. First thought battery tried to jump still won't turn over just clicking. Changed the starter motor and still the same.
There is power to the starter is there any thing else i should check because its sounds like the ignition is not engaging the starter. although i can here a click in the engine bay. The fuel pump runs up ok.

Have you tried a direct connection from the battery positive to the signal tag on the starter motor? You may want to chock the wheels and check gearbox in neutral or park.

No not tried that yet. If it does start what would be the problem?
Immobiliser or ignition switch fault?
If its doesn't start i take it that i have a faulty starter motor even though its new today

What did you try and jump start from?. Was the battery of jump donor at least as big as yours? It sounds like shortage of power.

Sounds like the battery died. I had this problem like 2 days ago. Battery had been acting up for a week and had to jump it every now and then. Then decided to test the alternator by disconnecting one of the cables to see if it was the problem. But the car kept running. So I kept the car running and Took my car to the nearest autozone to get the battery tested. And it was as suspected, the battery was no good. Bought an optimo battery, connected it to the car. Car turned over with no hesitation.

Some times no matter what you do to try and jump the car. The car won't start because of a bad battery. Seen it plenty of times at the ranch. Test your battery and see what you got.

I would go with this........I had to change my battery last week it was totally fubar would not hold a charge and would not jump start.

Further to last post. Tried flying lead straight on to the starter and had no joy. Removed starter put on the bench put 12 volts on it and worked ok. Refitted to car still won't turn over.
Then i put the car into first with ignition off and rocked it tried again car started and has been ok today. Cannot Figure it out?

Sounds like maybe the ring gear is damaged and the starter was jamming,

rocking the car in 1st has moved the ring gear to an undamaged portion allowing the starter to engage properly and turn over the engine.
