Just got in my rangey 99 T 2.5DSE and it wont start....
Has been fine all morning...
unlock it,wait for coil light to go out,turn key...nothing...lights stay on on dash,not showing any faults,not saying engine immobilised,all normal apart from not starting,not even attempting to..no noise from starter or anywhere....

It is very very wet here but has been all week so cant imagine itll be that??

Any ideas before AA get here?

I've had mine 2 years now!!

I still do it.

I'm used to my BMW which puts itself in park when I turn the engine off, and I keep forgetting I have to put the RR in park by myself!
 
We've all done it.

One of the worst ones for new owners is when you have a flat battery and it says GEARBOX FAILURE/ABS FAILURE
Real heart stopper until you learn about the cars little foibles.
 
Every auto I have owned I have done this then it clicks. My first I started it then wondered why it wouldn't go into drive. Foot on brake!

My Mrs does it, phoned me at work, cars broke again, too.
 
I've tried to start in drive once because I killed the engine at a security point to hear what they was saying over the speaker system, went to restart when the gate opened and my pants filled, then I remembered what I did wrong.

I've had that and I **** my pants. Once the alternator finally **** the bed and I replaced it I've not had it since. I honestly thought I brought a pup. RR must be quite daft though because the first thing the dealer told me was "there is your filler cap button, you can't see it when you're in the drivers seat and the most common phone call we get is 'how do I put in fuel' turn off the engine and press the button." :p
 
Yep, I did that with the filler cap. Thought it was knackered too when it wouldn't open when the ignition was on. Interlocks, stop you buggering things up.
 
Well...glad im not alone lol :p

Ive had the ABS fault warning flash up once but touch wood hasnt done it since...

Only other thing that threw me was when i first got it,pulled up a pumps,filled it up without locking it then when i got back in it it said "engine immobilised" that,was a bit of a wtf moment until i had the common sense to blip the alarm again.
 
Not had the immobilized thing, think mine has been turned off. Had abs warning, or was it trction control when dropped wheel down off the curb. What the hell. Never done it since.

You got to love them.
 
I actually called the rescue service out when I did it, and I was parked in a pub :beer2:. The guy was okay though, just said, "try in neutral, Sir":doh: First auto in about 30 years!
 
There's a lady in my area that I've been out to so many times cos she's left it in drive that I've lost count. One of my colleagues has also been out to her for the same fault a number of times. My colleague managed to go out to her for and actual fault 2 weeks ago. She had a flat battery.:eek::eek::eek::D

Renaults also like throwing up gearbox, ecu and abs messages when the battery is flat. Some customers can't get their head around the fact that it is only a flat battery. Apparently cos thedashboard says 'gearbox fault' it must be true.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Assuming you get back into the car if it locks out, can a flat battery actually cause any lasting problems?

Puts low voltage fault codes in lots of systems generally not an issue. It's problems caused by jump starting that are a pain. Make that jump starting incorrectly!

That is something we covered a lot when I was learning to be a mechanic. I believe we actually had 5 hours just on how to jump start correctly. Who knew there was so much involved in it?

It was mostly making sure you use the correct procedure, different earth points on derv and petrol, although if you've read the owners manual you'd know that.

But really it was the health and safety aspect. A student some years before I started there managed to get the hydrogen gasses to light up by doing earth first live last and ended up with plastic embedded in his face (although they did mention it is a rarity). So whenever I do it I try to hide behind the wing/bonnet so if it does blow I get to keep my face. I am ugly enough as it is, don't need it making any worse.
