The FIRST one? I've only had the one 25 years ago, decided not to be silly again - with age comes wisdom.

Yes, it was a joke and I'm working on the problem. Work and weather is slowing progress.

Just for reference, I solved the problem. Inside the gearlever, below the knob is two rubber o rings. They had degraded and fallen away not allowing full lift or depression of the lever

I replaced them and we're away.
