Hi all , last week car started playing up .came up on dash trans fail safe prog. Then it was okay for a couple of day. Looked on here it was was saying battery etc. So yesterday I put the battery on charge for a few hours .was only new last year. Then this morning I started it up and checked volts on battery when started up and it was 14.1 v. So went to go out in it . Pulled out my driveway and was okay. Then got to the junction and that was it . No drive in d or r. But no warning on dashboard this time. What shall I do next .

you done well if its still got original box,torque convertor has prob failed do a search loads of posts on here to help you

The green D is showing on the dash to support its actually selecting the drive, nothing in manual mode either ?
Any diagnostics you can connect ?

everything lights up. Tried in manual aswell. Not connected to diagnostic yet. How much we talking if it is the gearbox

Second hand and fit yourself with no guarantee it will work, £500 +, get somebody to do it for you you, cheapest £1200, possibly up to £2 - 2.5k.
Torque converter would also need doing but i would have a good google for RRPhil or Bemble (same guy) as he has the most experience and knowledge, even more so than ZF (for the 4.4 petrol 5HP24), and Saintv8 wont be far away as he is second in command as it could be the valve block or something else before you start paying out large sums of cash.
What's the year and model of yours?

Let me guess, it’s a TD6? A 5HP24 would never leave you stranded without both Drive and Reverse
I should drain the transmission fluid and see if it’s full of metallic debris.

Got a price today for recon box fitted , with new torque converter and oils, £2100 including vat, and will recover for nothing .
