Hi There,

Just taken delivery the Wolf pictured below, straight from Camp Bastion and full of sand. Came with no keys but already had her running by bypassing the ignition and fuses. Fired immediately, no smoke and very clear idle. From initial inspections looks like a new 300 TDI lump which is a big smile.

Anyway as someone kindly lost the keys, it looks like it was then laid up and then parts taken.

Basically I need a full layout of fuses and relays both in the cab and under the bonnet. As it's a 24v system is this different? does someone who has one take a couple of photos?

Also immediate job is a cambelt / fluid / filter change...looking at Evilbay these parts can be picked up easily but there are options...any recommendations?

All help would be greatly appreciated as I'm still fairly new to LR's, thanks in advance for your time.

I would just get a new ignition barrel to be honest, probably easier.

Regarding the timing belt components make sure you get OE parts, replace the idler, tensioner, belt, stud etc... no point in doing the belt only then risking the tensioner or idler throwing a bearing.

Get yourself the parts PDF or microcat so you know all the part nos. and use Land Rover Spares and Parts Direct or someone similar - I find they are best as they give you all the options and don't trick you with good looking prices only to find it's a cheap part that has no right being on the vehicle.

DONT BUY BRITPART - honestly, it will cost you more in the long run.

Are you sure its direct from camp bastion?? Im sure if it was then it wouldnt be that colour. The snorkel and green paint and sand everywhere would maybe suggest its been used for wading in the sea in the UK. Im sure I heard recently that Withams were disposing of some ex marine beach training wolfs. Do you have the release papers? They will have last unit listed on them.

Nice land rover either way and pretty rare. Good luck with the project.

Hi There,

Very sure it's from Camp Bastion...there was a big sticker on the windscreen saying from Camp Bastion to....Ashchurch

Medical packet rips behind the seats

and other bits saying JF MED CP

You only have to see it to see that its been in the desert, honestly there's about a cm of sand in the battery tray and a whole lot more behind the dash, generally everywhere is coated.

I also have the release papers

Regards
Charlie

Ignition barrel has been order already. Going to take my time but some feedback on fuses etc is needed. I'm not going to rush this one and it's staying as it is once the surface rust has been sorted.

Charlie, what photo's do you need exactly? Friend of mine is currently working on TUM's. I think the electrics are the same as on a TUL. He has several vehicles in his workshop so it's quite easy for me to take the pictures you need.

Great stuff thanks.

Just need a layout of fuses and relays in the fuse box on the dash, and there's a smaller black box under the bonnet, fairly central by the bulk head that has the larger blade fuses.

There's no information on any of the panels and most fuses are missing.

Thanks in advance

Joachim, while your their taking photos can you take some photos of a steering guard for me please? Side photos, front photos, photos of how it fits with jate rings etc. thanks

Thanks a million.

I'm hoping it's the same as a standard Defender 300TDI

I think it is. There is a steering guard set lying around in the workshop. It comes from the MOD and still has the land rover decals with partsnumbers on it. Will have a look.

Just came back from the workshop. The spare steering guard is not for sale. It's there if one of the wolfs needs a new one. Over 200 wolfs have come trough the shop, but it's still there. Another 80 or so to go, and if it's not used after that, it's going back to Germany. Also the thing was behind three pallets of new roll over protection bars, so the part number will come, but not today.

First the pictures of the fuse boxes (click to go the larger ones on flickr):

On the inside

The explanation on the cover

The under the bonnet

And now the steering guard

Put another one on the ramp:

The PAS fluid was poring out on this one.

If one of you need some decals for ex-mod vehicles like the "do not loiter..." or "do not refuel while operating.." Just let me know. I made some replacements and have some left. You can have them for P&P.

Nice one... thanks for the photos. I hoped the wolf guard would fit and be compatible with my jate rings but it looks like the jate rings on a wolf sit further fwd than prev defenders. Nevermind.... I guess ill have to keep looking for a guard that works with existing jates.

I will take some picture of mine tommorow, if you want? I have a Steering Guard (Really Expensive! £10 from Sodbury Sortout) and Jate Rings (Square, Welded Type). All fits fine, but did need a bit of helping from my Hammer :)
