heard it said a few times,out of the various 4x4,s the army used not much could keep up with a wolf,so what was done to the 300 tdi to make it faster?

"When the Wolf was designed the engine in the civilian Defenders was the Td5. Land Rover preferred the 300Tdi for the Wolf because the electronics in the Td5 were more complex to manage in the field.
The 300Tdi on a Wolf uses a slightly different design of timing cover compared to the civilian version."
It's probably the fact that it's the only vehicle they haven't had to hold back on performance for reliability.

i read that bit too but was wondering if anything else was done,bigger turbo/intercooler etc

Don't think so. Main mods are in the chassis and body for load carrying and safety, apparently landrover scrapped the jigs for the Wolf after building this contract as no one else would want anything so high spec... Suppose it helps them maintain speed over the rough stuff.
Presumably that means heavier = slower than civilian?
Bearing in mind any comparison of speed of the wolf would be compared to other military vehicles.....

gear box is defferent, as is transferbox,
chassis is heavier and stiffer,
All componants are Heavy Duty,
all in all thier not that different, the reason why they used the 300 over the td5 is because it wasnt able to withstand an EMP attack, the 300 was, they didnt use the 200 as it couldnt take a 24v generator where as the 300 can,

Would the belly plates be taken off on the later ones on decommissioning?
Was having a perv at an R WIMIK at the Yorkshire Show and talking to a TA, reme fitter who was saying the under armour was as big a risk if hitting an IED as without?
(? Have Wolves got it, thinking about it?) ...

Just re red what you wrote. They wouldn't cause a risk being fitted during an ied strike. Trust me you'd want them fitted ...the guy was talking mince ....they provide safety to the crew
