Hello,

The silicone CAF hose arrived this morning, so I got to work and installed my new Donaldson WOLF air filter box. I fabricated the support bracket myself - it bolts to the previously redundant air-conditioning compressor mounting on the timing case. I forgot to take pictures of it before I installed it, but it's nothing special, just a bit of 3mm steel.

It's a little quieter, but not really any noticeable difference in power. Fills a nice gap in the engine bay mind :D

Like the catch tank on the breather too.

Thank you :) I like to do things right! The catch tank is a little pointless to be perfectly honest, it creates more condensation than it collects oil but I am going to leave it be, it gets drained every two days when I check the oil

We have that catch tank as you call it works well on industrial/farm motors as a spot for dust and plant seeds to collect and you can do a clean out with out taking apart the whole thing and also a spot for easy start to spray into for starting in cold weather

Now OSD we have old diesels with out glow plugs, and at -20degrees F at nite they is hard to start, Jumper cables and a little very little easy start. Got a 1978 ford tractor( made in England/ perkins diesel) and a little easy start and starts every time, when them new tractors(90 and newer JD just sit)
 
nothing wrong with easy start for difficult starting engines ,never needed it for modern engines but worn 2.5s on some cold bays ,it doesnt kill engines ,but is most needed on worn engines

Why not be kind to the engine and for Christmas fit a start glow plug into the inlet manifold?

Failing that, a bit of oil-soaked burning rag giving you loads of beautiful oily smoke at the air intake! The Perkins love the taste of it, and it's better for them than squirting pure ether down their necks!
 
Ok...I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but that airbox is exactly the same as mine, yet mine was sold as a 300tdi airbox? Are they the 300/Wolf boxes the same? Or have I got a better airbox than I first thought?

Just following fords cold weather start producer. Have had the tractor for 18 years and still keeps running strong. Just got to know what to do and how to do it. You got cold start experience at - 20 + days. Puts icicles on a mustache:p:p:p

It all depends on whether or not your air box is original or not and where it came from. If it's metal, it's a standard LR part. If it's plastic, like the one in my photographs, it's a Donaldson unit which was designed to fit on military Land Rovers (WOLF spec) with the 300tdi engine. They are listed on ebay as 300tdi air filter box's. Post a picture and we can tell you.

Thanks Mr. Haze. Yes, I got my injectors sorted and it has restored the lost power but it has not yet solved the misfire problem and blue / white smoke on a cold startup. I am going to be examining the rocker shaft / rockers, push rods, cam followers etc. next week and if there is nothing obvious there, I am ring to compression test it and strip it down. I won't let it get the better of me, not after all this! :mad:

Nice looking engine bay POS! looks like you've put some work into it!
Im interested in the catch tank youve got - Id like to do similar to my 200tdi - where did you get yours? (as an option to making one myself!)
