Guys,

I have only myself to blame...love at first sight, then I heard her talk, and the rest is history....

For some strange reason, I thought i could buck the trend and make journey economy, not use her as much as my last 4 x 4, etc etc.

Well shes costing me flippin fortune, and drastic times call for drastic measures.

I'm sure i'm gonna get a lot of angry punters on here with what i'm gonna suggest.

Take out the v8, and put in a 2.0l pinto from my retired low mileage mk2 transit.

I'm no expert - what does ye say? ya or ney? Complications??? Any ANY advice greatfully received like a novice will.........

I'm in the LEZ thats why i went for a v8. Hate new trannys - ultimate pikey wagons. wanted something classy but cheap. 1989 v8 was £2200 fitted new body. need a petrol to stay in the law..............or a euro 3 diesel....... any reccomendations?

Have you considered an efi conversion or 3.9 efi will be more economical than a carb setup

14-17mpg efi and 9-13mpg carbs

if you are considering lpg then consider this
lpg is half the power value to petrol thus for one litre of petrol you need nearly 2 litres of gas! just beacuse its 3/4 the price of petrol you need twice as much twice as often get the motor running right and you can cheapily and easily improve the mpg on petrol and save over lpg.

down side to lpg it is a dry fuel burns the oil of the bores causes rings to stick to the pistons causing loss of compression even on a 3.5 it will fail.
if you have a later car on injection you still need the cats for mot and if it is set up crap it will have the ecu in a tiss due to fuel air ratios wrong and every time it switchs to petrol it will either be to rich or too lean.

bottom line if you cant aford it dont run it simple.
and before the crap starts fltying ive got three v8 cars a 100",lse and a d2 which i took the gas off as it ran crap

nice to have info from someone whos been there, so its hard to get a ECU, CAT,LAMB engine to like LPG . the kit im helping fit runs through SUs,its bought paid for and half fitted so surpose its just try it out. Heard there is a power drop it should only be a prob depending wot you use your motor for

dont worry about what stu says, its not half the calorific value of petrol its just a bit less than petrol. there is still a saving to be had so long as its set up right and your engine is healthy. 3.5 are the least likely rv8 to have trouble with liners etc on gas but they all and any can obviously

some people would rather sell you a 7k engine rebuild to save 5mpg- now that maths really doesnt work unless you are keeping the car for ever and doing mega milage. the rest of the landy would fail if you did that anyway lol

Fett, whats with jumping on everything that Voguese39 says? is there a problem here or is it me worrying about the way the forum is going??

if I see something I disagree with I say it, well if I am in the mood anyway.

I thought that was what forums were all about?

And Fett is right, I had LPG on my 3.9 Vogue which did 15mpg on petrol and 12mpg on gas and ran lovely on LPG, sounds a bit like vogue is confusing his own opinion with fact there really, or has something against gas.

well said mate!

you have to watch out for people who have business to gain trying to do just that with there advice on forums

Looks like too me armson ae is skint and this is his way of get a£5000 engine rebuild out of everybody,or should I say pulling peoples pants down and charging the earth, heard some crap in my time, just shows you its out there still floating about

if gas was no good...why did armson ae state when he first laid eyes on our 1998 p38 4.6 hse we had the best lpg system money could buy...our p38 had its gas sytem fitted in 2003 at 68,000 miles and now has covered 124,000 miles with no engine issues at all...yet prior to the lpg system when it was soely running on petrol it had to have a brand new bottom end at a cost of over 4000 by land rover....clearly do i need to say any more...if you can buy the best...then fit the best...dont always believe what you hear or read...have you ever heard the truth by anyone trained by or works for land rover

I have never come acrross a so called proffesional 4x4 mechanic or 4x4 garage who does a good job, I am sure some must exist but I am yet to find them!
