Hi all

any one offer any insight to why?

when i turn my steering wheel left to right and vice versa there seems to be around 1 cm of play before the wheels turn

what would course this? its had a new steering pump not long back and its been bleed etc and drove 1000 miles since pump change

could it be the steering box? may be it needs some kind of refurb>>>> if so is it a hard job???

anyone have any ideas???
cheers
griff

could be or a ball joint get someone to rock steering wheel hard whilst you feel drag link and track rod you should be able to feel were play is

its just had its MOT a few weeks ago,it failed on the upper and lower ball joints on one side, there all changed with new ones ,if it is the steering box is a rebuild of it a big job? and will it cost me lots for the repair kit? if there is even such a repair kit???

thank you i will try what you said tomorrow and report back :) but if it is the box im liking the sound that its adjustable if not to bad :) hopefully a easy job

I had what seems like a similar problem recently. Over time i was continually correcting steering wheel but probably had got used to it.
Car was in at Gibsons Cumnock being Waxoyled and report that Draglink was worn and had to be replaced.
This was done and what a difference. I had put it down to having to drive a big 4x4. Just shows that faults which develop over a period may not be noticed properly.
Check the drag link part no QHG000040. This may be your problem

Ive been chasing a similar problem on my D2 for the past 6 months,
Ive changed all the suspension, re bushed everything, new watts linkage, re-con steering box, new steering damper, wheel bearings, steering knuckle balljoints, steering rods changed, new anti roll bar links front and rear, wheels balanced and tracking, after all that there was still the feeling off it wandering, so even though there was no apparent play in the steering shaft as a last resort I changed it for new one including the UJ's and it now finally feels like a safe car

Front panhard rod bush bolts a little loose or bushes fubared?
Stand at drivers side of car with arm through the window and swing the steering wheel left to right observe if the car body appears to move sideways in relation to the front wheels/axle.
