Guys...has anyone had any experience with dash cams and Defenders?

I've just fitted a Nextbase 612GW and the bloody thing wobbles about like mad? (Obviously you cant see it at the time,) but when you watch the footage back, its quite shaky???

Wondering if its just typical for a diesel 110!

Before anyone says, it is tight and secured with the 3M sticky pad, not the suction cup...

Any experience???

Mine is a go pro copy, suction cup to the windscreen and looks steady. 90 300tdi.

Cheers

When mine (312 and 512) was wobbling (enough to make it onto the sound track) I thought it was the 'Mag Mount' but it turned out to be the hanging wire to the cig. lighter socket that is heavy enough to cause the problem with the right angle hang in a tiny USB socket with its swaying and jumping!
I understand you have used the Sticky mount but the same would occur.....

I have now got a hard wire kit ready to fix up tight - to route it upwards rather than hanging loose.
Might that be it?

Otherwise the Def does jump around a bit mind.
Have you tried it in another 'car' ?

HTH.....

My rear view mirror glass vibrates away nicely, it doesn’t really bother me that much. I need to change the windscreen seal soon, so maybe this will help.

Funny you should post this today as I meet a friend this morning who is a copper and he notice my defender. He warned me that there has been a raising trend of crash for cash targeting Defender drivers in the south east as the cars do have a reputation for entertaining brakes. He advised me to get a dashcam to protect myself.

My Garmin is fixed using the suction-cup and is rock steady in all conditions.

I did have to disable the auto-save function (designed to save the footage in the event of an accident) as the slightly harsh ride of the 90 meant that it was constantly saving everything and would have filled up the memory card quite quickly.

I do have it hard wired in...but fair should for tying it in another car....I’ll do that and see if there’s a difference

Does the camera have image stabilization? Optical is best but if it has digital stabilization there might be a setting for this in the menu.

I have a nextbase in my 90, it did wobble slightly so I purchased a stealth mount off eBay for it, one that sticks to the windscreen rather than a suction cup fitting, it no doesn't wobble!

I have the same camera Nextbase camera attached to the screen or dash it affects the video quality but I dont think its the mounts fault as the whole bloody car moves. I can generally still read number plates but I have got into the habbit of saying reg plates out load of anything thats worthy of keeping and the g sensor is pointless.

I think it’s just the vibrations as it can we terrible when pulling away... I agree though regarding the g-sensor....just locks up every file and fills up the memory card in no time! One run from Cumbria to Milton Keynes and a 64gb memory card was full!

Didn’t realise at first as to why, but the g-sensor was marking the files as “do not overwrite” so there ended up no space to loop record!
