Hi Guys, first would like to say what a great forum this is, and i hope someone has the knowledge to help me out!
My 96 disco has a very noticable movement from side to side at low speed and when i am travelling faster there is a noticable shudder . I am not sure if they are connected but i am assuming they are. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this ??

I found a post from back in september which is identical to mine, I have tried to contact the member who posted the question, to see if got to the bottom of it, but have had no reply from him, so I am assumming that he doesnt use this forum anymore, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

What sort of speed is it your doing when you feel the shudering?
I'm having a similar problem with mine at the minute, but above 60 if i hit a slight bump or dodgy tarmac it sends the car all over the place.
We found front wheel bearings need tightening up, and i've got a worn track rod end. but havn't got round to doing them yet, should hopefully be able to sort it next week.

Can't be 100% sure that this is the problem, but it's not going to be helping. might be worth having a quick look at yours.

Hi Jac, at low speeds 10-30 mph if a hit a bump or a speed ramp, I can feel the back end of the car move from side to side, at speeds above 60mph there is shuddering which gets worse the faster you go, and if the road is very bumpy the car feels like its jumping around, funny enough on a smooth road it feels fine, I have just had the car checked over for mot and there are no visible problems with suspension and steering and have new tyres all round.

Did it do it before you changed yeh tyres? Just cos they are new dunt mean to say one int dodgy i.e egg shaped!

Play in the swivels can cause wobbly bits!!!!!!

I am having my bearings tightened on thursday as i have had the bushes on the panhard rod and radius arms done, steering damper replaced, so will let you know, other then that is could be the pre-load needs to be checked, the garage mine is going to says it will be a 4hr job to check, lol.

the car was doing it before the tyres were replaced, was hoping that would cure it, something is causing the back end to sort of wobble or move from side to side when going over a speed ramp or rough road, looks like this is going to be a tough one to sort out!

Had the same thing on my dad's Passat many years ago, was the rear shocks - when you hit a bump at speed it was scary, like you were going to loose the back end, but it didn't shudder/wobble all the time, only when hitting a bump.

hi chap get garage to check A frame ball joint its a difficult one to do your self its right at the top of rear suspension if its knackered it causes floating not expensive part but you need a ten tonne press to split it after removing it from disco this is often over looked and can be tired for years
hope this helps let us know how it goes all the best m8
