On a split screen series is it an MOT fail just to have a wiper at the drivers side?

Shouldn't be, you only look out of the driver's side. I'm sure the passenger wiper was an option in the early years.
It might fall under the "if it's fitted, it must work" category though.

An MOT tester can not fail a car under the "If it's fitted it must work" rule. The MOT manual is very specific as to what constitutes a fail and if it isn't classified as a fail then it's a pass. there is no ambiguity whatsoever. There are plenty of links to the online MOT testers manual. That you can lookup to see if the tester was right to fail your motor.

Dont need one on the passanger side but if you have one it must work.
Not too sure if you need one at all on any side.

O.K. what's happened is this. Previous owner fitted new bulkhead during unfinished restoration. There are three holes for wiper bosses. the driver one is ok but he mounted the passenger wiper boss in the hole nearest the centre screen divider. Consequently when the arm and blade is fitted it bounces over the divider when mounted one way and bounces over the windscreen pillar in the other position. Do I just need o remount the boss in the hole nearest to the windscreen pillar?
I can understand all that drivel, just hope you can.

do you have a roof fitted? if not fold the screen down and it will pass as the wipers are n ot a testable item if the screen is down

How far over the centre is it wiping? is it by the same amount as the difference in the hole spacing ? Right size blade is fitted I assume!

Hi all I have just acquired a series 2 and was wondering if anyone is aware of a windscreen wiper/blade upgrade asI am planning on keeping it at a wet part of Aust.

Nobody really answered this bit. It's got a single wiper motor and the arms travel in same direction. As above, will they work if I shift the neaside boss to the hole nearest the door pillar.
