Lately my wipers intermittent setting hasn't worked correctly, instead they wipe constantly. I suspect the relay may have been to blame? But today the wipers & screen wash packed in altogether. Im going to try and sort it tomorrow.

So, is this likely to be the relay, fuse or both?

Intermittent packing up is usually just a loose relay. If wash and wipe have both packed up I'd be checking the fuse.

Thanks Ratty. It may be time to try the VW 99 relay trick again, but the last two 99 relays I bought didn't work. I'll give it all a good coat of looking at tomorrow.

Mines a 99 td5 and a vw relay works fine on it:confused:

Mmmm, new stalk fitted 2 yrs ago after my rather round belly caught it when getting in:mad:. Ill start with the fuse/relay and then strip the cowling and look at the stalk :)

Finally found time to investigate my wipers today. Started with the fuse and noticed it had blown. New fuse fitted, wipers did one sweep then packed in again. Noticed the fuse had blown again .

So, I know the wiper motor is ok but seeing as the fuse is blowing straight away what would be causing this? I remember that I had previously caught the wiper stalk with my jacket when getting in one day, causing slight bend to the stalk.

Would a faulty stalk cause the fuse to blow? Before I buy a new stalk, should I be inspecting the relay?

It could be the motor because if it was a short to earth it would blow as sonn as the switch is flicked. you could try connecting the wiper motor up to a wire connected straight to the battery (via a fuse) just to confirm it's not the motor at fault. If it blows the fuse then you know it is the motor. If it doesn't, you know the fault is with the switch or wiring.

Woops! Wiper stalk bent, not the wiper arm:eek:

Thanks Ratty, I'll add that to my list of things to check:)

If your wiper wheel boxes have seized up (which mine did) it causes the motor to struggle and can blow fuses. I went belt and braces and bought new genuine wheel boxes and motor for about £150 from the dealer and it was the best money I've spent on my motor yet!!! The wipers now clear the screen effortlessly.

BINGO. You da man!:D

It was the motor that was at fault. Whilst my 110 was at the local indie for other work I asked them to have a look at it and it was a problem with the wiper motor. New motor now fitted.

My old faulty Britpart wiper motor:eek:. Collection only! I'll be home tomorrow between 06:50 - 06:55. Probably:D
