My 1985 90 rebuild is getting there, with the wiring coming together and the first running of the new 200tdi engine

New wiper motor and wiper switch seamed to be plug and play with the old loom connectors, but my wipers are trying to clean the bonnet???

Could I have got something set wrong for the park position, or is it possible someone flogged me a left hand drive motor?

I double checked and the wipe drives do have the wire/worm running top side as they should.

Any ideas much appreciated

If it is a left hander model you can check the part number code for description. LH or RH. Park only settles on the bottom of the window seal unless out of alignment.

Refit the wipers on the spindles so that when in the off position they are at the far end [ upright ] of the sweep. The wipers will now sweep the screen but park upright.
To have them park in the correct position you have to open the motor gear box and turn the drive gear wheel 180 degrees. Now they should park on the screen line. Some more adjustment on the spindles may be needed.
Replacement motors today all seem to be set for lhd.

This was a problem a few years ago, didn't realise it was still happening.

I bought a new wiper motor back in 2013 (I had just had my bulkhead galvanised and was rebuilding it with as many new parts as possible inc. wiper motor, spindles, heater, wiring etc etc) and the wipers operated in exactly the way you describe. Did a quick search and it seemed to be a fairly common problem but as you say, easily resolved when you know the cause. Just surprised that it has cropped up again.
Mine was an OE motor (genuine part if I recall).
