Hi guys was looking for some advice on my wipers.

When its raining i turn them on nothing happens.. unless i get out and give the passenger side a nudge and then they start working.
When the rain stops so do the wipers. So if rain starts i have to do the same again.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance. Dan

The whole system could probably do with a lube. But most likely bearing [ a plain bush ] in the bottom of wiper motor gone dry.Remove dash cover on nearside to expose wiper motor and two bolts through the body release the end plate [ mark part position before removal to aid reassembly ] You could also open the back plate 4 small bolts and lube the gear and operating arm as you are there.
To remove motor just slacken the band that holds motor to bulkhead and slip it out.Take the screws all the way out and you will be fishing for the back plate in the engine bay.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Will do just that. What type of grease should i use?

Cheers

The other thing to look at is the motor brushes, a wee nudge to get them moving can be a bad contact.

I use a decent Lithium Grease, which is readily available, although I once used CopperSlip, and burnt everything out!!

Just an update. Took the bottom of wiper motor off. Was heavily corroded inside. Tried to get the loose buts out. Lubed the little bearing thing and replaced.

Madevan awfull noise when tyrned on and blew the fuse.

Im guessing from the corrosion i may as well buy a new motor.?

On plus side i have learnt how to remove dash and change wiper boxes

Sounds as if your landy has done some deep wading at some time and water has got in the motor for it to be very corroded, still an easy fix. Cheers.

Sorry forgot to update. Got a new motor swapped it over.

Changed plastic thing on cog from left hand drive to right.

Suprisingly it all worked first time with no dramas.

Strangely the old wiper motor was not the same shape as the new so i suspect it had wrong one in there.

Also a bonus. i ordered one on ebay and it came with the gears and a brand new rack already fitted to it. *was supposed to be without lol.

Cheers for the help
