Hi all,

I'm in need of some advice for my Freelander 1, 54 plate.

The wiper motor has packed up on me.

Are there any recommendations for where to purchase the motor and (I understand ) the linkage? I'm a novice at all of this. The wipers have stopped working and a loud noise.

Also, what parts would I need to order ?

Thank you for any advice/guidance.

If the motor is still running, then it may just be the linkage that has failed. The balls drop out of their sockets!!

You will need to remove the wiper arms, lift caps and 2 x nuts where they attach to car them pull off.
Remove the round black scrivets holding the trim under the windscreen. Easy way to do this is find a small screw, screw gently into the centre hole, pull with pliers and lift scrivet out.
Then remove trim and inspect linkage and motor.
Report back when you know if motor is still turning. If so, you can buy fixing clips for the linkage, or new linkage arms.
Photo on here of what you find and we'll talk you through it. Happy Christmas !

Hi @andyfreelandy thank you very much for advice.

Excellent. I'll get my husband to do this and report back. Luckily, I was not on the motorway when it happened and I managed to get it home.

Phew, what a drama. Happy Christmas to you too.

Hi all,

Well, I've now had a wiper motor and linkage replacement and all of this is going well. It's taken me a while to report back as I've moved house, taken weeks to reconnect our Internet.

Now, I have a knocking noise on the car which sounds like it's coming from the O/S rear. It's quite clunky. Nothing on the mot advisories.

Any assistance would be really helpful or should I start a new thread?

Tiny mechanic wanting to be let out ?

New thread with new title helps others when they are searching for similar problems.

Check the trailing arm bushes, they split and the arm bashes on the chassis rail.

Thanks @andyfreelandy for the description. My left one gave up the ghost this morning on the way to work. Thought I drove over a fizzy drink tin till I saw that the left side didn't move anymore. I can move it manually though. Will check once it stops snowing or raining or both.
