There are already plenty of threads on here about wiper box and cable renewals. A few months ago I followed Busters "how to" thread and replaced mine in my 1996 defender 90 and it was a huge help. Cheers Buster.
Now, I ordered my parts on fleabay. Fitted the wheel boxes no problem. The cable turned out to be Britpart. It was too long. It was going to foul if fitted as it was, so I cut it down using aviation snips.
Yesterday the drivers side (which is nearest to the snipped end) started slapping the bulk head / screen wash jets quite severely. Earlier today it was a bit floppy..... and my windscreen wiper wasn't much better.
Now it is next to useless (the wiper).
I realise that I've made a school boy error in cutting the cable down and that the spiral is probably stretching off the free end of the cable.
So, I'm going to order a new cable and replace it. I'm going to try to do it by removing the wipers and motor and pulling the cable out then feeding the new cable in.
My questions are:-
1. Are there different lengths of cable, and if so what is the part number I should order for the shorter one?
2. Does feeding the cable through the tubes and wheel boxes work?
Cheers,
Doey
