hello, I think this is the right place to post? Just fitted new head lamps to my can of worms 1972 88"s 3. Left hand one went in ok, very sticky hands from removing insulation tape. right hand one, got too cocky and turned lights on and just the indicators lit up?
Please note, put new indicators and side lights in aswell it did have small indicators on the outside of the wings, but took them of as it was far too clever for me.

well anyway, nearly sorted it, got a little help (but not much) from mustang sally land rover pages. It has a really neat wiring diagram from a chap called mr bean.
http://users.mrbean.au/~rover/headlamps.htm
But his colour code on diagram is well ,one colour, not like the haynes manual.
I shall carry on ranting to myself until someone says ,do this ,do that. or even **** off you little ****. at least i am not the only person on this p0lanet with the same problem of old wiring. rant over.

get a multi meter, which can be had for under a tenner. Then measure for voltage to earth at each of the connectors, when you turn each light on (side, dipped, main, indicator). Once you've made a list of what colour cable does what, post it on here.

good luck.

Thanks for your advice,
But I have just bought some wind up torches and rigged a rather clever way of winding them of me p.t.o. Also a head torch,.
Yes sorry I will get of work early and buy one, (multimeter).
Cheers

:eek:Got me self a multi meter and have not got a clue how it works! Turned light switch on and got bugger all on all the settings. So I have got two 20amp relays and fed them from the alternator, one relay for high beam and one for low. Both have a fuse in so it will be ok i think. Going right back into the dash is too much for me. Going to do some resarch into multi meters. Yes I should put this in series talk, but Icant do that either??
God I sound like a right ****er...

i put the wipac conversion on a couple of weeks ago, it took a while to get them both working well, it was down to getting all the connectors cleaned up, clean the inside of the connector joints with a bit of rolled up sandpaper/wet and dry

green wires are indicators
blue/red is dipped
blue/white is main beam
red wires side lights

i was checking them all individually direct with power from the battery,

i also found a red/blue had been chafing near air filter with half the wires gone, repaired this and got a bit more light
