Have STT's 235/85's and they performed faultlessly in the snow last yearI had BFG A/T 235 in the snow last year, with good tread they were fantastic
I now have Cooper STT's 265, they probably wont dissapointMy mates were good anyway
As far as I can tell mud or all terrains are both very good

I have the 7.50x16 Military off road. Outstanding in the snow. In fact they are a good all round tyre.
I was thinkibng about putting something on that 'looks better' but not really found anything suitable. I also need tyres that are able to be used with an inner tube as I have tubed steel rims.

This depends on many factors.
On deep or soft snow most MT's will perform very well. They even work well on semi compacted snow and of course, if you are going to venture off the road, then there is still likely to be mud and water below the snow, so will work best here.
AT's tend to perform better on icy compacted snow. The bigger lugs of the MT's can't cut and dig through this, so might struggle compared to the AT's.
That said the BFG AT's are rather aggressive AT's, so actually perform quite well in many off road situations. Other AT's can be far more road biased and won't work as well in deep snow or off road.
AT's or winter tyres with sipes will generally perform even better on ice compacted snow.
Largely it will come down to preference and where you are likely to drive. But there's no reason a good set of MT's shouldn't get you were you need to go.
