Would putting a different make of the same size invalidate your warranty? I would doubt that.

I had a brand new Skoda Yeti before my FL1 and ran winter tyres. Skoda recommended 2 sizes, one for using with snow chains and one without. They did not recommend a manufacturer. I would expect a dealer to recommend what they can get hold of and make a decent profit on.

As mentioned above I have Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme on mine and apart from being great on the cold icy roads yesterday, they were great off-road as well. Many 4x4 owners seem to run there all year round.

The "recommended" tyres are those where the manufacturer's are in bed with Land Rover on a cosy supply basis. Any that meet the size and weight specs for your vehicle are fine and will NOT invalidate warranty.

Give Andy Sergeant a ring over at AJS Tyres for the full low down on winter tyres for Land Rovers - what he doesn't know about the subject isn't worth knowing.

The recommended tyres are tested by Land Rover to ensure the vehicles handling characteristics, noise, vibration etc all meet the design specs and do not compromise the safety of the vehicle.

If a tyre doesn't meet those requirements then they are not approved even if it's from one of the preferred summer tyre suppliers.

Having said that a non approved tyre shouldn't invalidate the warranty but of course it depends on the issue (or not) that they may cause

Thanks guys for your input.

I had to go to the dealer yesterday to get the key changed under warranty and I spoke to the Service dept. They advised that providing the rating and size/loading of the tyre is correct and the tyre is EU approved then it will not invalidate any warranty. Happy Days.

Now I just have to decide on which make, Vredestein Extreme 4, Pirelli Ice and Snow or Goodyear Ultra (the approved Landrover tyre).......???

Take a look at Nokian WR SUV 3.
Superb press reviews. I've got them on my FL2 Dynamic 19" rims. Chose them after much deliberation.
Bought them off Oponeo web site.

Really happy with the Vredestein's. Very good off road as well. Seem to be quieter and give better economy than my General Grabber AT tyres.
