yep!! mines the same...although it shouldn't use much. perhaps its just that the shorter days mean that the lights/heater etc are on more so will be using more power so using more fuel etc

I agree with Mark2.
It's the weather and time of the year in general, rather than just the fbh.
On a frosty morning (they're coming soon) the warm up time without a fbh is just unreal.
Some folks switch the fbh off thinking it will save them some cash as it's 'wasteful'.
I tend to think it's not .

Unless you have the optional timer kit, and/or the even more expensive remote control gizmo - you can't.
It turns on automatically to speed up the warm-up time.
Some folks who didn't know they had one get a helluva scare when one cold day it starts up. Smoke from under the bumper etc.
Generally it cuts in at temps below 5 degrees C if the engine is not up to temp. Usually switches itself off after 5 - 10 minutes.
With the timer you can set it to do all sorts of things, along with the heater controls - just like a night-heater in an HGV.
If you leave it running to keep the car warm when you're shopping you can even get an announcement in Tesco's that your car is on fire - most folks don't like seeing the smoke and vapour coming from underneath.

I think that most Freelanders have an fbh, and only the basic models didn't.
Might be wrong though.
Both of mine have had one and I didn't specify it - it was just there.
I originally thought they all did.

I bought my HSE td4 auto brand new in 2004 The fbh required a silencer to be fitted as an option(& at xtra cost!) I've had the remote option(eBay) since 2005 & wouldn't be without it. Going up to your warmed,defrosted car at night when all your mates are scraping ice is priceless - especially their faces when you take your coat and jumper off inside ;-)
