I need new wing mirrors, I have the holes in the wings but want to fit the defender style ones to the doors. I don’t have holes in my hinges to fit them. Does anyone know of another way to fit them or is it possible to drill the holes?

I tried those big mirrors but on the original arms, no good, too much vibration. And the Big prob with putting new hinges on apart from them bein mega dear is that you’ll have to fark about realigning doors etc,....got a pair of new arms and round period mirrors from rimmers i think, fitted and adjusted correctly, they work great!( See pic of rover when green...) 065BB547-892F-451F-9FC0-47FDD39774CE.jpeg3C34EC37-B759-40FB-A243-59E36A696543.jpeg

I have a S3....fitted defender type mirrors years ago....best mirrors so far....in 50 years of ownership I have tried lots of different mirrors.
Its easy to modifie the S3 top hinge....drill 2 holes and a bit of filing id req on the back of the hinge....10mins per hinge.

I think mine were less than a tenner for the pair about 5 years ago. Getting the old hinge bolts out was a bit entertaining but I didnt have to realign the doors or anything. I also have wing mirrors but they are useless and kids knock em when they walk past, little buggers.

The price of all parts, new and second hand seem to have doubled in the past two or three years. A tenner each isnt too bad really, they are quite substantial compared to a.lot of things costing a tennner.

That is also my view, a pair of hinges is still cheap. considering to drill your existing ones out you will be better removing them the door alignment and fight to remove/refit bolts is the same which ever route you go. For the price I would definitely just buy new ones predrilled, you old ones can be kept as spares for the lower hinges.

I currently have 1 of the small round mirrors and I struggle to see anything in it.

I'm just getting ready to fit a new set of the cheap hinges. They're ok but they are rough old castings. I've given them a going over with a flap wheel on the grinder to take a bit of the ugly off them before painting.

I didn’t bother with that. It is in keeping with the rough old rest of my series! Same as I didn’t fill or knock any of the panel dents out when repainting.

I bought some hinges from paddocks that had 7 specific machining errors- totally useless and the killer was- More play then the ones i wished to replace!
Wrote to paddock asking why did they sell such cr@p?
