Got to put the windscreen back in soon and I’m looking at the seals. A genuine one is available for around £130 - can I get away with a non genuine one?
Cheers

I went for a non genuine and the quality is superb, it was ridiculously cheap only £7.49 on eBay from Recoveryuk4x4, so you’d think it wouldn’t be very good but it’s been absolutely perfect, and all 4 holes in perfect alignment, but in reality it’s such an easy swap if anything happens so I’m not worried, but to be honest I’m very happy with it

Used Bearmach in the last Two Defenders, as long as they were warm before use they were just fine (according to the Autoglass fella anyway) No leaks.

So when the current windscreen coincidentally has a catastrophic stone chip event, Bearmach it will be….

Do you guys use any sealant, either on the glass or on the frame? I’ve seen sikaflex mentioned, but I’m sure there wasn’t anything on the original.

No sealant and aftermarket seal.
Have owned the 90 for 23-years and when bought the original (genuine) seal was perished around the edges. Have had several screens / seals over the years (removing screen to have frame painted, a couple of major chips but mainly due to heating elements breaking and insurance have been happy to replace them) and always supplied a BP (or other aftermarket) seal. No-one has ever had any trouble fitting and I I have never had a leak.
Current seal has been fitted for about 10-years and is in perfect nick. Bought a replacement seal a couple of years ago as I had another chip and wanted to be prepared in case a new screen was required but it was repaired ok.

OEM parts are made by the same company that make the genuine parts.. without the badge on

As opposed to aftermarket who see a bad photo in a brochure and try to copy it

Allegedly. I’m sure that a lot of stuff marked OEM is just as crap as the rest too.
