How easy is it to cut/take out the windscreen of a defender and replace it? initially wanted to replace witha heated one, but originals go fairly cheap on ebay. was thinking of doing it myself over say, getting it done on insurance.

so whats the method? cut the seal away, remove glass, install new glass push in new seal?

sounds too easy

If its going to be a *unt, how long would it take a garage to do? Got a good indi close by who will prob be able to do it.

thoughts please :blabla:

Aye it's a PITA Griff mate. Tried doin' mine and got there 3rd time!!! Cut old screen out.. lubed up new rubber.. lubed up frame.. got most of screen in usin' a bit of nylon washin' line... got to last bit and tried a little more pressure.. Crack!!
Thur's a link somewheres ah'm sure.. might be on lr4x4 ;):D

put the new seal on top of a CH rad, or leave it in the bath in very hot water to get it nice and warm - and 6mm nylon stranded rope to put it in

stanley knife to cut the outside lip of the seal and a pair of size tens to push it out from the inside - or a center punch and a hammer if you dont want to keep the screen

It took me to screens to get mine in and i wasnt happy, take it to your local windscreen place and they will do it for £25 as i found out later, better than having to get 2 screens .

Hi!
Mine's all scratched up and full of swirl marks. Is there any way to polish a windscreen to remove all the above, or is it better to replace. Where can I get a brand new one?
