Hi all. My windscreen demister is very poor on my 94 200tdi. Is this a common problem or could it be something else? I don't know where to start looking so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

When you say poor, is it not getting hot enough or does the window not clear very quick?
I had that last year. Mine was getting hot but not clearing very quick. Turned out the wheel arch was leaking and the passenger footwell was soaking. Any large amount of water inside the car and the amount of condensation on the inside will be much greater.

Maybe the heaters heat direction control is not moving the flap sot diverting the heat up to the windscreen.

Is recirculation working properly ?. are the window duct pipes still connected . When working the system clears mist quickly on my disco and no AC either.

Only just seen these replies. Right when I move the vents to the windscreen there is the noise of a flap moving. I have checked the ducting as best as I can and it all seems to be in place. It gets shall I say luke warm at best and to be honest a hamster could provide more puff then what they blow out. As for the recirculating - silly question but how can I tell if this works properly?

I am sure they worked 'not bad' and I say that liberally the other day. But then I decided to fiddle to try and get some warmth and I am sure they dont work as well as they did. But even before they were pretty ****e.

Well if the directional flaps are working and the fan is blowing then there are only two reasons for the lack of heat, the engine isn't hot enough or the heater circulation is blocked.

For the recirculation mode, after operating your dash control you will hear the damper closing therefore cutting off the incoming external air flow, after cutting off the flow u will find the cab gets warmer but may also mist up, so then u restore the external flow to clear. Use the recirculation mode if you have a/c to keep the cab as at it's coolest.

The recirculation mode on a 200 is vacuum controlled so may not work if u have an iffy vac pipe.

my demisters are working fine now and toasty warm. Turns out I didnt push the lever fully down. But the heaters arent warm??
