Has anyone had a windscreen chip repair done, if so is it invisible? I have a chip at eye level and worried that it might be more off putting than the chip. Also I know the front screen glass is safety laminated but what about the rear screen? The reason I ask is I have a telephone in the cubby box with an aerial fixed through the rear screen. I want to get rid of the telephone and aerial so would I be able to get a repair done after removing the aerial.

I think the repair depends on the "type" of chip as a friend had his repaired and could still see a spec, But have seen one that had totally dissapeard.

I need to have my screen done but as the screen is heated I have noticed that the part of screen now don't demist when on so looks like a new screen for me.

As for the Aerial I thing there are some Glass Grommets can't remember proper name remember seen some cars where they have taken the rear wiper off and a grommit cap has been putin place

Chip repair is done by injecting a resin into the chip. It's not totally invisible but if it detracts from your vision you can reject it after it's done and have a new screen done, hopefully, under your insurance.

Unless you're driving a Merc S class your rear screen is toughened, not laminated. However I think that you'll find that the aerial mount is the cable terminated in a pad glued inside the glass and the aerial glued onto the outside. Be careful of heater elements when you cut these off, sometimes they can be very close to the surface.
 
thanks guys, think I will live with the chip, its right in line with a wire going up the screen. It passed through the MOT so should be fine.
As for the aerial, I have unscrewed the antenna and again, I can live with the sucker type fitting on the back window.
 
The only thing about leaving a chip in the screen is the problem with water getting in in and freezing potentially causing the screen to crack.
I had a chip in my screen repaired about 10 years ago, the repair isn't totally invisible but not bad . It's better than it was and cost me nothing.:)
 
there wasn't many antennas that actually had a wire going through the hole in the glass, usually was by inductive coupler method, that is a coil of wire stuck on the inside, and a coil stuck on the outside, both contained in the relevant housing.

might be worth a look to see if you can unstick the outer one first, I used a stanley knife blade to cut through the adhesive and lever it off.

Cheers for that bit of info, I was only guessing that the cable passed through the window. The phone was in the car when I bought it. I might just have a go tomorrow, it looks better now and if it looks naff after the removal I will place a sticker over it :)

Rather than use a stanley blade on this, use a piece of fishing line or dental floss and saw away happly till it's off. Much better on your fingers than a lose blade. :D

Correct, done it with a scraper that holds a Stanley knife blade, bit of spit and polish and now as good as new. I still have the white disc on the inside so am I correct in thinking I can just cut through the cable and remove the disc?
Also does anyone know if I can just cut away the handset or is there a live feed that I should know about. Tried finding info on the web but nothing showing.
 
I think some are plugged into the stereo so i cuts the radio of and uses the speackers so there might be something depends which it is
 
:doh: …found a little box and the hand set was just a normal telephone socket so unplugged and removed, if any one wants it NEC Cellular Telephone made in Australia.
There is a thickish black cable going into the box (I presume the aerial cable) and a twin black and white cable going in, maybe a feed of some sort.
When I am next in the dealers I’ll ask his opinion.
