Had my 1999 P38 for a couple of weeks. Window Regulator was shot so had an aftermarket one installed this week. Window works fine, but still getting Error message when window goes up and switching ignition on/off.

Tried all the resetting methods listed on this forum; all way down, hold for one second then all way up; all way down, then all way up and hold for 4 secs; all way down, hold, then all way up and hold again.

Nothing has worked in removing message. Any ideas?

start car with window up,hold window down button til it has gone all the way down.Keep your finger on the switch and put window up and keep your finger on the switch til message says window set.

Tried this! Held for over 30 seconds up, could just hear a clicking suggestive of the motor trying to raise the window higher but not able to as it was at the top.

Your new regulator is either knackered, rubbish or been fitted incorrectly. The electronics should detect the motor straining at the end of the run. If the motor is still running then it can't detect this, hence error message.

There is a rubber strip that the leading edge of the glass runs in - this had come loose on my P38, and stopped the glass short of lifting fully. Worth checking nothing has dislodged following fitting the new regulator... There is nothing like a P38 for silly things being a big problem!

If you can hear clicking the motor is jumping the teeth on the regulator. So if the new one was any good when you fitted it it ain't now. The teeth on the motor may also be knackered. The motor is stalled when the window is fully closed or opened this is detected by the electronics and the motor shut down. If the motor is jumping the teeth it will never be stalled so can't be shut down.

The motor would still stall when the glass jams so the system would detect that as full travel.

Certainly got dashboard warnings and beeps whenever I tried to raise it, until the source of the jam was rectified. So it knew it hadn't shut when it stalled early.

The regulator is new. I have removed the door card and the motor is not like the original and separate wiring has been done with the original connector hanging loose. Although the window works could th wiring into the new connector be wrong?

Better to get an original s/hand or new motor and re-instate the wiring.

Could i just purchase a new motor and connect to the regulator or do i need to buy both as the regulator is non-oem?

Regulators go more often than motors.Try Emmots ,our sponsor at top of page.
Motor will be fine with your regulator.

Best get a complete regulator with motor as the your replacement regulator may not accept the original motor.
