Really, this is ****ing me off, stripped the panel off last month, moved it up and away it went, meant not to take it fully down just in case, forgot tonight, it goes, bump,bump,bump same as last time, and that's it nothing happens when I try to raise the window, if I press down x3 bumps, is there a limit switch for lower travel somewhere I am missing
 
probably its the mechanism motor uses to move the window the runners fail in the guides and pivots become loose,and levers bend
Yes I remember many years ago something sheared, think it was spotwelds, same too far down, rewelded, need to get my head round it tomorrow, plastic over open window tonight :-(
 
I had trouble with the window regulator in the driver's door of mine bumping at the ends of its travel, initially it turned out to be a couple of the bolts holder the regulator to the door had come undone and dropped out. Found them in the bottom of the door.
That seemed to sort it but I decided to replace the thing anyway because one of the little nylon rollers had disintegrated.
Removal is fairly straightforward, although it can be a bit of a fidde to get it out of the door. Replacement is just as much of a fiddle but in reverse. When you're fitting the motor on the new regulator take care to get the gears to mesh up first before tightening everything down.
When you refit the regulator use a dab of threadlock compound on the bolts holding it in the door to make sure they stay where you put them.

Try doing the job outside on an early cold and frosty January morning as I had to 14 years ago, after trying to drop the passenger window that was frozen forcing the regulator to go bang :(

Only to an hour but very fiddly to line up the regulator teeth to the motors drive cog in the exact position so the glass rises to the full height, which it didn't at first in my case, so motor and the regulator had to come out and readjusted and refitted back in the door. the reg had to be open to match the exact the height of the glass before fitting the motor which I this time did with both already in the door.

Haven't had any troubles with windows since, not that I use them much, just drop them every couple of months to clean the rim of the glass.
I see the Chinese copies at cheaper than the genuine part, but will they last as long.

I'll hopefully get a look tomorrow, thanks for all the comments, the killer is, I bought another disco and the chap threw in two spare window mechanisms, dammed if I can find them

It's a pound to a pinch of sh1t that when you do find them they'll be for other windows anyway!
Still, they're only about 15 -20 quid each.
 
if yu can lift the window, use a rubber door wedge to hold it up, till you can fix it propper.

Yeah, those wedge things are useful when you have to work on the regulators too, they can easily hold the window glass up and out of the way while you struggle with the rest of the workings.
 
I've had regulators go before, but the last time I had a window stuck it was a bit weird - the 'worm' gear attached directly to the motor shaft had jammed against the larger cog it was driving (which in turn drives the regulator gear), so that the teeth were stuck 'peak to peak'. Freed it off so that the teeth meshed properly again and away it went. God knows how it managed to do that.

The regulators are made of a special rubber steel coloquially known as "Sh*tite" and will bend in the slightest breeze.
Quite clever really, getting rubber to alloy with steel. :confused::D
 
Well that's it working again, exact same as last time, took the 4 bolts out that hold the motor and assembly, lifted the glass pressed the up button and away it went, nice and strong ???, anyway rebuilt moved it about by hand till I saw one bolt hole then up and down till the others aligned, well its up, I must remember not to let it down again.
 
Thinking about what's happening, it can only really be powering off at the bottom of the gear section ! Reasons cant even be bothered to think it through, my strange engineering brain shall work it out in my sleep, driving to work, having a cuppie lol, anyway as long as I don't take it back right down we are good to go, silicon sprayed rollers guides whilst down, thanks again for your thoughts.

That takes me back, might have been the 200/300 do remember it was -18° tried to open window and some welds sheared off,
