I've just fitted new door tops, the old ones were rusty!

I thought series 3 always had the lower lock in the square hole in the door top.

Mine has the series 2 twist type at the top of the window and a square blank to cover the hole beneath the window.

It seems strange that they would have the hole in the door top, but fit the older type lock?

It's not a problem at all, I'm just intrigued!

It is easier IIRC to fit the top lock, just 2 self tappers/pop rivets. Fitting the lower lock means cutting a correct sized and located hole in the window channel (too hard for some folk) that said last time I fitted new channels to a door top the channels came precut to the correct length and with a precut lock hole already cut out.

Yes, the new channels came with the holes, but I prefer the top lock so have refitted it. Just seems odd that it has a blanking panel for the square hole in the door top. Mines an early series 3, was the lower lock part of the deluxe option or something like that?

It could have been a replacement part, for either series 2, 2a or 3. Leave the blank in if you have a 2 or 2a take it out and fit a lower lock for a 3.
