Hey guys! today ive been trying to sort out the rust on my drivers door bottom. So i took the door panel off and rust was a little worse then i thought (pics to come) anyway i thought i may as well remove the winder mechanism and window because im repainting, but how does the window come out? and what is holding the window channels on?

Just recently have been working on this. The window is held to the winding mechanism via two clips at the bottom of the window. If you wind the window up and down with the panel off; you'll see the two white-ish clips. The manual says to wedge the window in place (half rolled down) so that you may undo the bolts holding the window to the mechanism. Then remove the mechanism; and slide the window down and out.

The channels are screwed to the door frame, in the center of each channel that the window rides in. At least that's how the two longer side pieces are.

Just got to love Deefer doors!! I was pleasantly surprised that the frame was still in tact on mine. The "chunks" of rust falling each time I closed the door; I thought for sure I'd be looking at replacing them soon. Cleaned 'em up with a wire wheel and some rust converter. Should be good for at least a few more years.

I have a spare clip if you end up breaking any, give me a shout if you need a hand.

IIRC two plastic clips onto glass. Mechanism is just a scissor action. And fits to clips with a slider.

Easiest way to get it apart is to unbolt the inner door frame which comes out complete with winder etc. just be careful of the window when you take it apart. Once that's all out the door repairs are relatively easy. I'll pop up sometime when I get chance. Glad alls ok at your end now...I'm doing my defender head gasket this week. The Evo is sold, so back to one car.....

Screws sort of deeply buried in the felt stuff. I took a screwdriver tip and ran it down them till I felt metal - should be Pozi #1.

If they are shot (bottoms tend to be rotten and almost flat packed) then I would replace them they are not a lot, £10ish a piece.
