Is it safe to winch a P38 with the engine running? Manual 2.5DT in this instance ('95). When towing you have to insert that fuse to place the transfer box in neutral but when winching you are only going 15 yards or so and very slowly so maybe you can get away with it?

What do you think?

Cheers,

J

No problem with the engine running as the oil pump for the box would be working.

I wouldn't have thought winching any vehicle at winch speed over winch distances would cause any transmission issues engine running or not

True, but with the engine running you can be absolutely sure and I would have thought the driver should be in trying to help the process with drive.:)

Most range rovers have spent most of their life being winched on the back of an AA truck roflol
The engine wasn't running then :p

Thanks chaps. Thought it would probably be OK but thought I'd better check first. Not that I'm planning on getting stuck but then I wasn't even planning on going off-road the last time it happened! :)

Most owners weren't planning to be winched on an AA truck either lol

This is why most range rovers have low mileage as they spend nost of there life on the back of a truck!!! My one must not be a real range rover with 267000 miles on it

yours must be a looky likey :D

they only go on breakdown trucks to save fuel :D:eek:

When I had to have my RR recovered from axle deep in mud the recovery guy asked me to fire her up so the PAS worked. He didn't seem concerned about the gearbox but as the engine was running for PAS it lubed up the gearbox anyway.
