im after a winch for my disco. common ones for sale seem to be 6000, 9500, & 12000 lb. i know i should get the best money allows, but what pulling capacity would be the least i should get for my disco??

what else could a winch do for me?

yep thats all i'l be doing. i'll keep a look out for 9.5k then. cheers

well you may want to enter comps and winch yourself up vertical slopes. A T-max 6000 wont do this so you will need something bigger and more powerfull. maybe a warn 8274-50 with gigglepins twin motor conversion. it will cost you more than your disco, but right tool for the job an all that.

If your not planning on going mental and keeping your motor light, then i can recommend the Warn M8000. I have one on my 90 and its pulled me out of the **** a few times. If you think your winch will struggle, use a snatch block to effectively double your pulling power. ALWAYS use high rated cable for battery feeds to the winch and solenoid inc. the Earth. 35mm or bigger is best.

Buy a repetable make and keep your eyes on Ebay. mine cost me £120 with a new albright solenoid and hardly used uprated goodwinch bowmotor. new wire rope cost me £15 job done. has to be my best E-bargain to date :D

it wont get much use so dont need anything special. was looking at an 'Extreme Terrian' one, heard they r ok. dont seem to b able to find any really good bargains

hehe, might still consider it if i cant get a cheap leccy one. surely they aint any good tho if cars loaded up as nowhere to put it

if yer car is loaded up dunt that mean there's going to be some room in yer landy ?

or are you calling yer landy a car ?

... and how do you pull yourself backwards using a front mounted winch ?

with snatch blocks you can turn it 180 degrees... Ive managed it without any to then find nothing to winch off

fully loaded 90 stuck, on our own, in Wales. 2 waffles under the wheels and off we went :bounce:

pleased, would be an understatement.
