nah,
its just a cheapo hand winch with a red handle i got of ebay for 40 quid,
does me though for pulling up tree stumps.

is this tirfir suitable for pulling one self out of a ditch? I have used them before, but only with putting up fences and tree root removals etc.

They most certainly are old chap! one has used one to roll his 90 back onto it's wheels after it rolled over whilst out laning..

The genuine article would,
but my little handwinch i couldn't tell yer, its rated at 5 tonnes, but the cables fraying , and the winching mechanism is not enclosed as with the real ones, so i won't be risking it.

nah,
the ebay ad claimed 5 tonnes, like i said in reality far from certain, or safe.

Probably pull a 5ton truck on a flat road. but as you say no way they'd pull 5ton of dead weight. My tirfor is rated 2tonnes lifting and 3.2 tonnes pulling. however throw a snatchblock into the equation and those weights theoretically double.

you said in your OP that you didnt want to buy ****... that one is ****.

IMO I would only buy Warn/Superwinch or Goodwinch. If you want a new budget model, look at the goodwinch stuff. Alternatively look 2nd hand. I picked up a Warn M8000 (here we go again) with a new uprated motor and new sealed solonoid pack for £150.

leccy winches can be a PITA and can be tempremental, most folk say to go hydraulic but it starts to get complicated and can be pricey. horses for courses.

Or you could buy a Tirfor. bearing in mind you have to be big and grizzly (read ugly) to use one ;)

cool. Warn does seem to come up alot. Secondhand works for me. I have tried find a part websites and stuff, but no one is coming back with winches for sale.
