I've got a 3500lb rates winch that's designed for a quad but also have a snatch block.

My question is that will this be sufficient for light winching using the snatch block or will it simply burn out on the first use?

I got the winch cheap so don't really care if it goes out in spectacular fashion. It has a remote so I won't be anywhere near it when I try.

My advice is 12000lb as the winches are not rated taking into account mud and angles off road and shock loading

Minimum I'd buy would be 9500, but 12000 preferably ... but why not just try it ;) Using a snatch block and good winch technique, straight pulls, no jerking etc it might work reasonably.

Good wiring and earth to it will help .. as will a good battery .. ;)

......and rating is for one winding on the reel......having said that it'd be more use than pushing :D

any clue what make this is wlm?
