Hi all,

Just a quick question.

I'm no electrical wiz-kid, so, can you use a winch with the following ratings if you have a battery with these ratings?

Battery: 12 v - 130 AH - 1,000 CCA.

Winch:

  • Line Pull - 0Lbs, Amp Draw 12 v - 100
  • Line Pull - 4,000Lbs, Amp Draw 12 v - 220
  • Line Pull - 8,000Lbs, Amp Draw 12 v - 330
  • Line Pull - 12,000Lbs, Amp Draw 12 v - 450
Thanks in advance.

Yes.

Most people add a second battery with split charge for the winch. I run my winch direct off the normal battery, just try to keep the engine running too to help it along ..

I have 2 newmax battery's, 85ah 1000cca each wired in parallel giving 170ah and 2000cca

In simple terms the more cca (cold crank amps) the more power can be extracted quickly for starting the winch under load, and the more ah the longer it will run something without been charged.

Thanks chaps.

So, in simple terms, as long as I keep the beast running as and if I use a winch like that I should be ok. Great;)

What amp is a p38 alternator? I swapped mine for a disco one as it's a higher output compared with the fender,

Dunno about P38 but Disco standard (well mine was) is only 65 amp, same as Defender, but replacements can be anything I guess, I now have a 100 amp on it .. works well .. :)
