Hi all,

Worst possible time to realise my winch doesn't work properly was after getting stuck in a lane....

Anyway,

Winch still works but doesn't have enough strength to move/pull the vehicle. Appears as though there's not enough power in the batteries as everything dims lights etc..

Had the engine running and give it a bit of throttle... Any ideas?

It's a champion winch and run off 2 batteries...

Winch was on the car when I brought it 3/4 weeks ago

How stuck were you?

Did you have a snatch block??

details FFS we're good but even we can't perform miracles????
 
It's a CHAMPION C12000EWX 12v

Don't have a winch block .... Only got he vehicle a couple of weeks ago so still getting bits for it. Got stuck in a deep hole when it slipped into it.. It's still on road tyres as haven't got dirt ones yet.. Just wanted a quick play bu it turned into a long one.


Don't think it would be an earth fault bu will ave a look.. But I'm a bit new to it so to get to th bushes I'm guessing that means taking it apart..
 
I've taken the winch apart and it all looks good and clean inside. The brushes were all moving ok and not getting stuck, I've cleaned all the terminals and tested with a multimeter to ensure conductivity.

Now I've tested the winch without the clutch/gearbox side fitted so you can see the spindle from the electric motor. At first it would spin slowly but I could stop it by grabbing it with my hand and now it won't spin.

I can hear the solenoids clicking when pushing the switch in both directions I have also wired the ground direct to the battery as it was to the chassis

It's still not working and I'm out of ideas....

Anyone got any suggestions or do you know any winch specialists in Bedfordshire/ Hertfordshire area?

Search fir a post made by Paul d, "warn winch repair" he explains how to test the motors ect in some vids he did.

Be VRY careful trying to hold a motor shaft. If it takes off and you get your hand caught you will look like a Cairo thief, post justice:screaming_bug_eye_f

Thanks for this running through it now.. Just tested end the motor how he did by wiring directly to the battery .... Motor testing - YouTube

Only difference is mine doesn't spin... I'll take it apart again to see if I can find anything loos etc but failing that maybe need a new motor?
 
And why is the guy in the vid wearing Crocs? Ferk it, starting to sound like an elfnsafty berk now. Sod it, there his toes:D
