Ok I've done a search and read various things but wondered whether anyone has any comments on this choice selection.

I'm trying to decide between:

1. Superwinch Tigershark 9.5SR - Superwinch Tiger Shark 9.5SR 12v Winch with Synthetic Rope

2. Warrior Samurai 9.5 High Speed - Warrior S9500 High Speed Samurai 12v Winch

3. (the budget option) Warrior Apache 13000 Synthetic - Warrior Apache 13000AP 12v Electric Winch with Synthetic Rope

I was leaning towards the tigershark because it's a more recognised brand and has the synth rope for under £400, seemed to fit the bill perfectly. But after some reading around I've heard the internals on the Warrior High Speed range are really quite good? But then I'd have to go steel wire which I was trying to avoid.

I'll only be using for pay and plays so will probably get used as handful of times a year, but I dont want to buy cheap and buy twice.

Any comments anyone?

For what it's worth my winch came with the Disco when I bought it, unknown make and not new, I too have only used it on pay and play days and broke the clutch lever off almost straight away but I haven't missed it. Its been underwater, buried in mud and silt, rarely used and all I've done is change the wire rope and stripped and cleaned the inside of the motor when it stopped working. I've seen a few synthetic ropes snap but never a wire rope. If you can get a good winch for under £400 it sounds like a bargain.

Cheers. After a lot of head scratching I think I'm going to go with none of the above and get a Goodwinch TDS instead :D

Many years ago I sold and repaired winches, I was a Come Up agent and mainly sold them and Warn 8274s
Warrior is owned by Winch Solutions.
No he is local to me but I have never met him.
But I have never heard any bad about them, only good so I can see you having an issue.

I have 2 warm winches on mine, modified 8274 and xd9000,

A mate of mine has just bought a tigershark one for the rear of his and so far so good, but it's only been on a month or so,

I would always choose synthetic rope over wire any day, its safer and nicer to use,

Beerdude, you don't want to see a wire rope snap the seriously injure and kill people, even with winch sails on https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m1NnL83UpuQ

I totally agree.. you can get synthetic rope with the same strength grade as wire .. The weight of it is less.. plus it floats.. Win win in my opinion.

Another massively over looked thing is the battery, the cca and ah, and the size and quality of wire used and that it's wired correctly,

Cheers guys. Just fitted a new Numax battery, 1000A and 115Ah so hopefully that'll be up for the job?

I do really want synthetic, in the few times I've helped others with winches the steel rope is just horrible to use. It always makes me uneasy on big pulls as well. I know there are still risks and downsides to synth but it just feels safer.

I'm just trying to weigh up whether to go for (what i think is) the better winch in the Goodwinch TDS and upgrade to synth in a month or so, or whether to just get the Synth Tigershark.

Not sure but your probs right, a pals just dropped my 90 back off as he's used it to winch a 4x4 sprinter ambulance out of a ditch as he broke his the other night, he used the front 8274 and having owned one can understand why they cost so much second hand, you get what you pay for like every thing in life same goes for the ropes we use on them

Just to throw other options out there and for what is worth .. this is my choice.

They look and sound pretty impressive. As far as google is showing me you can't get them in the UK though?

I imagine sourcing spare parts would be a nightmare too

Apparently they are distributed by the same people that sell warn if that helps ? I got mine from a place called opposite lock (Aus) .. VRS Winch 12500lb | VRS Winches | Opposite Lock

You could try the "electric winch shop" they have always been very help full when I have needed anything. It's not on there site but the sell a lot of warn stuff and they know what's on the market

Warrior Winches,Superwinch UK, WARN Winch, Recovery Winch, Electric Winch Shop

VRS is expensive (£800+) and only 1 yr warranty vs 2 yrs most.
The Warrior Samuri 9500 synth is my choice if I could afford it!
Comparing the Amps used vs pull speed it seems to be most efficient of all of them suggesting longer play time battery drain etc. Electric winch shop seems best for deals also.
However I have zero experience of winches so up to you!

The Warrior winches are really very tempting, but I think the service and parts/upgrades available for the Goodwinch TDS are still winning at the moment. Plus it's the only one of these I've actually seen being abused and it was mighty impressive (well it was to me that doesn't know much about winches anyway).

Will be ordering next week so still pondering though . .
