Hi all,

I've just managed to get an old 12,000lbs winch working that I was given but I need the electric cable and the actual winch towing cable itself (any recomendations on length?). I understand these start about £20 each but I cannot find anywhere near me in Worcester or over the net? Any ideas would be really helpful.

Thanks.

One other point. A lot of people have said their winch electrics cut in and out. I had this problem so gently unscrewed the Solenoid housing and sprayed WD40 in it - seems to have worked a treat!

Try a ships chandlers for the wire if you want to go that route, I had 60metres on mine before I changed for a Dyneema rope, personnally 25-30 metres would be plenty and thats what I have now.

for the electric supply cable you can use welding cable, about 200 amps should be ok, plenty of the stuff on ebay, don't forget to get the crimp on eyes.;)

As above. Electrical cable (welding cable is what I have used) 35mm square is the size you want. Got mine off ebay to, measure it up and ask them to crimp the eyes on for your given lengths.

With regards to rope wire, your drum will only likely support 30m so go with that. You will need 9mm diameter. Again many on ebay, could also try Arbil. I know Goodwinch usually have a stack at the shows from people upgrading to Synthetic. I picked one up for £20 inc hook/thimble.

Good luck.

I used welding cable 35mm and I think I got 8 meters if I remember right. I soldered the the crimps on with a blow torch. Just have to mark the cable at each end to show it's red.
