Daft idea time.
does anyone know if there is such a thing as a rear bumper with winch mounts?
Just wondering what to do with an X9 Superwinch.
Seems a bit of overkill to just bolt it to the front of a car trailer.
 
Thanks for all the offers of taking it off my hands, but i think i'll keep it.
it's old and tired. Was on the DAF400 spec lift ...hmm, shall i mount the speccy on the back of the disco ...nah, she'd rip in half -- boot floors are a weak point anyway.

anyone know what the pull limit is for the stock towbar on D1?
 
Oh it's a good winch. 5ton DAF400 pulled itself out of a few situations.
Cable is old and frayed though. it's been misused by a previous and the 3 cores have separated. simple £30 replacement i know.

trouble is it's only 9000lbs, and 'old noggin' (P926NOG) already has a 12000lb fitted on the nose.
the S3 is so rusty there's nothing to mount it to. (she's not been used since 1996)

what's the X9 worth anyhow?
{note to admin} no, i'm not trying to sell, just curious. ;)
 
Iv not made one for a disco yet but have made a few for 90's

Iv got rear winch bumper on my 90 and wouldn't like to only have a winch at the front, I use it more than you would think

that's the plan then. i'll have to find a way to make a new rear bumper.
...any helpful designs on a postcard.
 
I'm currently making CAD designs for the D1 rear winch bumpers I'm making, will be fully TIG welded construction, 1/4" plate (6.3mm) construction and 15mm bar is used for the recovery points then drilled and hand ground on a wheel.

Working my way through the designs I have, managed one non winch bumper so far and just about to finish off the winch one, you need to remove the old central crossmember though

im in the design styage aswell, iv already cut my rear x member out for a bumper i had before but now wanting winch im moving fuel tank and mounting it between the chassis rails.

il watcxh this for designs though

WLM do you have any other pics of yours?
 
you do when youve cut chassis back to the body mounts..plus i keep hitting the tank amd its abit bent tank guard yes but will leave me more room. so iv got a custom tank to sit in back now leavbing me enough room to get a small house in there :D
 
not really..basically made my own rear bumper from the same material i made my sills out of..

i cut the chassis back to the body mouts, cut out the rear x member, and replaced with 6mm angle, then made some 6mm brackets for bumper and welded to the inside of chassis rails..its done great up to now pulling ppl out on snatch recovery etc, even lifted back of car up on block n takle with it, but since iv lifted body on car now it dont fot right..if photobucket would stop f****n me about i could post a pic up lol
