Right lads, I'm going to go for a split charge system to power the winch but which battery would I need to power a Husky as I hear they draw a lot of power compared to other winches.

Would a Numax Gel battery suit ? gel battery | eBay

Or would I be better getting an Optima Yellow Top or something like that ?

Cheers mate, well given that that one I posted up is 120a/h I think it should be alright, I'll have a bid at it seeing as its only a few miles from me if not I'll go for that as its a lot cheaper than the Optimas or Odyssey's

Where have you fitted yours ?

I'm thinking I'll either have to fit it where the jack used to sit or somewhere in the corner of the boot within an insulated case

For now - yes. Got another battery tray to get welded in (did away with the last one when inner wings were replaced) and need to fit the 200tdi air box before I eventually get another one wired in.

Fair enough, I think I might make this one a remote one seeing as the winch controls will be dash mounted.

Means I also don't have to weld into the engine bay

Have you got a snorkle? If you have this will allow you to run the intake so that you can fit one where the jack was, thats what i done. If you keep them both inhe engine bay it makes wiring easier and also mean you dont have to have a permanant live cable running through the body...

I've got a snorkel on mine but the intake uses the original intake position as I couldn't be bothered cutting a hole in the airbox and inner wing so I just used a longer pipe and some extra connectors from the plumb centre.

I may be able to fit it into the winch bumper itself actually but not sure how easy it would then be to access, might have to rethink this or put the big battery on the original tray and a small one on the jack plate

I'll think of something

I have a optima red top for starting and a Numax for aux and winch. This is through a
T-max split charger , this all works frigging well.

I have killed the Numax winching at night with the lights on..., but the start battery has been protected so the landy will still start

Both sides at the front will hold the batteries, much easier wiring as a result.

Numax all the way, had two fitted for 4 years now to my winch equipped Disco with no problems.

I don't have the other side fully available……thats why I was thinking inside

I have seen them in a box in place of a dicky seat. Also not for the faint of heart under the passenger seat  and most interesting witch I may have done in a box under the rear right wing.

I'll have a look this week and evaluate my options :p

I think I might have to move the snorkel pipe or extend the battery tray, if not I'll place one on the chassis rail maybe
