im relatively new to the off road scene and have been out on a few adventures. I was going out on my own mostly and was loving it... until i got stuck. stuck in a stream with really boggy ground. in my nievity i thought my 90 woud trawl through anything! Anyway with the help of a friend of a friend with a tractor and a few hundred pounds later i was free. annoyingly there was a huge tree only 20ft away and a winch would have been perfect! so i have decided to get one but have no idea on what capacity or brand is best. i have a 2000 td5 90. any advice would be highly welcome!

both to be fair. got the rope taught then both tried driving off, then tried snatching it. i think its half the fact the ground around was quite boggy and the other defender struggled with traction.

Were you trying to pull forwards? What has gotten you stuck is just compacted in front.

Pulling back out is easier

where was this soft bottomed stream?

If you're needing to use a winch on a greenlane you shouldn't be there in the first place.

I'm assuming that you aren't a complete idiot and do carry basic recovery gear onboard when you go laning?

maybe a longer strap needed so the recovery vehicle can find a place with traction and/or a kinetic rope can help and you can build up some good force to yank it out. A winch may help as its a steady pull rather than a pull/relax type action

Yep. A hi-lift jack can also be used as a winch in that situation.

I carry a variety of length straps and ropes of between 10ft and 75ft for just that reason.
