do you think petrol will still be around in another 50 years]?.

Yes. Saudi Arabia have 1000's of years worth alone.

It's not worth anyone dying over, but preserving something that has already been 'made' is better than making a new thing I think.

I was thinking of legislation rather than running out, just as they did with leaded petrol.

I agree but think of all the transport and machinery that runs on diesel, even the tanker ships that delivery your petrol run on diesel i think.

Then just use it for transport as it was in the old days - passenger cars should use petrol as it's much cleaner. The din of a traffic jam is unbearable these days - bloody diesel after bloody diesel clattering away.

Slightly OT, but if values of P38s are holding and might even go up (seem to have crept up slightly in the last couple of years as far as I can see), has anyone found a classic or agreed value insurance policy for them? Even the newest ones are crossing the 15+ years threshold so it ought to be possible. Any clubs doing insurance valuations for P38?

Land Rover Monthly is valuing them at up to £7k. Can't see any insurance company paying that much out on a market value basis.
