So now that summer days are coming, I have been making more and more progress on the land rover.

I have found a rear axle from a Disco 300tdi with disc brakes. It seems in good nick and the owner is asking for £80, comes with the diff and half shafts.

My plan is to fully refurb the axle before doing a swap with my 300tdi defender drum braked rear axle.

The guy is insistent that I will need a trailer or a van to pick up the axle. Has anyone ever managed to transport these beasts in the back of a D90?

I am purchasing it without the wheels if it makes any difference.

I carried one in my SIII 88 to deliver it to a forum member. It hung out of the back a bit, but was fine.

The fun will be lifting it up into the 90....

Me and the auld lad had fun moving a 90 axle into my relitively low berlingo van.

Yes they fit. Me and are kid picked one up for his for the exact same reason you are doing it.
Can't remember how exactly, but on an angle across the tub I think. (it was a few years ago)

Should do. If you don't have a pick-up your passenger seat might fold flat forward ( I'm not sure if it does on all years/models ).

My seat folds flat, not sure my passenger will.

Thanks for all the comments I have made the call. Please avoid the M4 from High Wycombe to Reading on Thursday, they may be an axle in the road... :D

Funnily enough, it was the M4 I avoided dropping my axle onto. It didn't go through High Wycombe then though...

Tend to avoid High Wycombe as a general rule!
