nice one Thor, a classic, by the way, I live on a big houseboat, called DILLIGAF, ANY IDEAS.....
Man, that is a great name for a boat, but can you live up to the sentiment expressed?
Sounds like that old RRC is making you "give a fark", but Landies are like that, a British invention sent to frustrate the world both near and far.

12 thou is neither here nor there on a head that has never been skimmed before. But there is an overall measurement upper to lower face that must not be gone below. Anything below that and you need to insert shims under rocker pedestals to maintain the tappet free play limits. Don't quote me on this but i seem to recall 40 thou is the max that can be remove before rocker pedestal shims are required. Even then it maybe prudent to fit some.

Hi wammers, I'm fitting composite head gaskets & grinding the valves & seats . After refitting the heads, wouldn't start, elecs all ok as is both RCU's. Now stripped down again
& ready for re-build number two, oh, & with new cam, lifters, timing chain with cogs from Buick & water pump with re-built thicker rad. I will get the engine blessed by the
local preist in the hope that she starts.

Thanks norseman, I knew it would drop the comp, but im not going to be drag racing in the foreseeable future !

On the upside you are better off when using 95 octane unleaded as my RRC is the same year as yours & can pink on 95 if the timing is not spot-on. I'm a confirmed cynic & am convinced that the recommendations made by LR regarding octane ratings are more to do with marketing than anything technical. I have the genuine maker's workshop manual covering 3.5efi model years '86 through '88 & guess what? Three different octane figures for the same comp. ratio engine o_O

To the octane side of things have you heard of a Fuel Cat, it , amongst other things changes the way the petrol molicules enter the carb or injection system. So you don't
loose any fuel, it all get ignited so you get more miles per gallon aswell as up-rating 95oct to 97-8oct. check the Fuel Cat out. At £69 for 250k motoring its great value &
designed for classic & vintage cars & bikes, diesel aswell, it also de-carbonises the engine. Today I ground the valves in & they were in good condition, very little burning.

Having seen the advert. I posted on this subject recently asking for opinions - judging by the answers it seems most folks are as cynical as me, if that's possible ;)

I think that the words bull and shit can be firmly attached to this product. :D

You don't work for that Fuel Cat mob, do you? Great sales pitch!

Cetane, of course. Yep like most of this "miracle stuff", only for dreamers.

I don't believe some know just what octane rating is. High octane diesel fuel is something which not a desirable concept.
