The heads on my EFI 87' 3.5 have been skimmed by 12 thou, will that be enough to
change the timing so much that the engine wont start ???????
Answers on a post card to " its got me stumped, no:1 rangie rd. rovertown ".

Yeah, scrolled to bottom & still the same. Just fitted a new timing chain, cam shaft & lifters, this week ime going to reface the valves then fit the composite
head gaskets cos' I had put on the metal ones, then time it up by hand. all elecs checked & are ok. So it should start first time. Famous last words.

Timing not effected by head skimming at all, check all your efi/ignition wiring.
Does it have fuel, spark (at the correct time and order), and air, even with valve leakage it should fire up if the ingredients mentioned are present.
You could have efi problems.

12 thousandths is the thickness of a Asia hair. I doubt things are that tight to be a issue

The use of composite gaskets will reduce the compression ratio by (I seem to recall - don't quote me) 0.60, so 9.35 becomes 8.75 if that's of any interest.

Thanks norseman, I knew it would drop the comp, but im not going to be drag racing in the foreseeable future !

YEP, all the above are ok, even the checked both ECU unit & wires, perfik. Still, could be worse, I could have bought a disco.! oops.
