Problem solved.

Duff injectors.

4 x recon injectors and it's back to it's old self. I've no idea how 4 injectors can fail at once but I can assure you it was them as I removed and replaced them myself.

Thanks for everyones help.

biggles64 everything showed up fine on mine. There is no way any of the sensors can tell you if the injectors are flowing properly.

Funny the bosch tech guy said it is a fault they have come accross giving our symptons. Where did you get injectors from androughly what was cost?

Glad you got it sorted S8 . . . .but so strange all injectors ,might be worth changing your fuel filter :) :) :)

It would of been worth whacking some injector cleaner through it before changing the injectors. TBH you only hear of injectors being changed due to excessive leak back, something which I doubt you had since you didn't report any poor starting issues.

1 injector was leaking back so bad it couldnt be tested, the other 3 I'm not sure.

I got them done through a mate of mine in the trade at a local company call Leyland Autos.

The test cost £10 per injector and I think the recons are £90 exchange.

The weird thing is there are very many threads in here and elsewhere on the net where leak back was so bad that it resulted in difficult or even non starting (due to insufficient fuel pressure at the common rail) but nobody complains of power loss.

The bosch guy said the loss of power was due to loss of spray pattern at nozzle as it was a very precise science? That I dont know but it is a problem they are seeing. As for leak back we had about 7 mm in each tube there were all pretty equal. Again would seem strange they all fail exactly the same. On the bosch site it says the TD4 injector allows a certain amount of fuel back to cool the nozzle so not sure how accurate a normal leak back test is?

That's why I was suggesting injector cleaner, to attempt to correct poor spray pattern.
Yes the injector uses diesel as a cooling medium that is returned to the tank but this occurs when the injector solenoid opens the valve. The purpose of the leak test is to test for fuel leaking past a closed valve ie. when the injector in not operating.
Until this instance the only obvious symptom of excessive leak back has been a refusal to start or poor starting so I'm surprised Mick's engine started at all if leak back was the only problem. So personally I suspect poor atomisation/spray pattern to be the more likely reason for the loss of power.

The lad who tested the injectors was very suprised the car was running when the injectors where removed.

Hey presto new injectors and as good as new. Euro Spares had a deal on for Bosch remanufactured injectors £85 plus VAT exchange.

First two cam out easy then a side hammer persueded the last two out, re-ground the seats and all done.

Thanks for everyones input
